Lisa Ortuno received her PhD in biology from the University of South Carolina in 2002. In her graduate work, she studied the mating patterns and population genetics of American alligators. Since then, she has worked for three international biotechnology firms - LifeTechnologies, Illumina and Promega Corporation - providing technical support and training for life science research, DNA forensics and clinical diagnostics laboratories around the world. A member of the Baha?i Faith, she has given numerous talks on science and religion to local and national audiences. Lisa has three children and lives in North Carolina.
